Divorce in Florida is the solution chosen by the residents of the state when marriage is no longer working. With the increasing divorce cases, looking up such records may take a while. Access to the records is open to the residents of the state, thus they can request it anytime they need it.

It is very sad to know that if the marriage of a couple is no longer healthy, they resolve to separation. Such emotional event has to be documented for it to be used it in legal transactions. Without such document, a divorcee may not be able to update their insurance information. Conducting a background check on the marital status of an individual would need access to the divorce records as validation of the information. A divorcee would not be able to get married again if he/she cannot provide their divorce certificate. Although, it is rarely used in genealogy research, it still plays a vital role in the family history because it can create confusion to the future generations.

Divorce is a sensitive issue, not just in Florida, but in all parts of the country. This is the reason why the information that can be found on the record is controlled and limited. One can only find the basic information about the separation on a public document. This includes the complete names of the couple, the date and the place where the divorce has been filed and granted. The state of Florida can only provide copies of divorce certificates which have been registered since June 6, 1927. A fee of $5 has to be paid if the year of the separation is known. If the year of divorce is not known, an additional $2 per year has to be given.

One should go to the Vital Records Section in the state of Florida in order to get a copy of the certificate that is dated from 1927. For records prior to the given year, it has to be obtained from the county clerk office. One can also send a mail request to the state office but this may take a while. To avoid the long wait time, one can look up the information through the Internet.
