A Brief Of Israel In Prophecy

By Toni Vang

The geopolitical positioning of Israel makes it an important reference point in global issues. Its history as a nation is as interesting as its political emergence. It also has a significant spiritual identity role especially among Christians. The futuristic perspective of Israel in prophecy is of interest to Christians allover the world. This history permeates beyond the spiritual ream to intertwine with global politics.

The bible provides a strong foundation for Christians to adapt the tag of Israelis. This is from a biblical perspective that combines both the new and the Old Testament. It also has a historical perspective to it as the nation is constantly under threat from its neighbors. The ultimate goal is to see the restoration of the temple in Jerusalem which will see the unification of all Jews around the world and peace for the Israeli nation.

Interpretation of prophesies about Israel is the main cause and source of confusion. The tussle is on whether to interpret it directly or indirectly. The salvation that is promised to Israelis will come after the destruction of their enemies. Whether this is to happen physically or spiritually remains the question. It calls for careful consideration of the spiritual and biblical boundaries as understood from the historical context.

The coming of Jesus was viewed as a moment of salvation where he would establish an earthly rule. This kingdom would rule with justice and fairness. Unfortunately, he did not establish such a kingdom which left Israelis very disappointed. As they await the second coming they are not sure whether to hope or give up to their fate.

A seventy week period was given to Israelis by God during the time of Prophet Daniel. It should be clear that each week represented a year as indicated by Ezekiel. They were to experience salvation at the end of this repentance period. However, this did not happen and even today, they are still suffering in the hands of hostile neighbors.

There was a lot of hope and expectation when Jesus first appeared on earth. According to early prophesies, he appeared at exactly the time that a savior was promised to arise. He performed miracles that made people believe that he was the chosen messiah. The voice that came from the clouds during his baptism was testament of his privileged position.

The Old Testament foretold the coming of Jesus in the exact way the New Testament records. For instance, Jesus enters the synagogue and reads a scripture that applied directly to him. The similarities in his birth, mission and death make the case of prophesies more plausible. However, Israelis are still stranded as they await the coming of their savior who will help them escape misery.

The tag of a Chosen Nation begun to refer to the fraternity of Christians when Jews rejected Christ. This failure led to the spread of good news to other nations and their incorporation into the plan of salvation. It is upon the Christians that all these prophesies will be fulfilled. The way to enjoy these prophesies is by believing in Jesus as the source of eternal life.
